The global food and energy supply is plummeting as a result of which numerous researchers are desperate for a technology which could improve yield. An international symposium on Induced Mutations in Plants being hosted by the International Atomic Energy Agency brings together around 600 scientists and breeders .This mutation is a 80-year old technique of induced mutation and uses radiation to alter genetic material in crop plants to boost output and disease resistance. An extension of this technique called selective mutation can also help crops adapt to changing climates and conditions.
