The state of Oregon has issued green signal for the solar highway project. The proposed project which would turn highways into wind farms will be installed at the Interstate 5 and Interstate 205 interchange in Tualatin. There it will cover around 8,000 square feet and produce 112,000 kilowatt hours per annum. The total cost for the 104-kilowatt solar photovoltaic system is $1.3 million. The project is stipulated to be completed and expected to operate in December 2008.

Google in partnership with O3b satellite company are planning to provide ultra-high speed internet connection through 16 medium-earth orbit(MEO) units.
